Hate to Lose!

Losing doesn’t come easy to me. Heck, I don’t think losing comes easy to any1. Can some1 will be so carefree as to not mind losing in a hard fought match or a game where that person was slated to win yet went on to lose? I hate losing, period. Everything that I participate in, I wanna win and I wanna win grandly. But more often than not I get disappointed, not because I wasn’t good, I just wasn’t good enough or I didn’t put in that extra gear that could’ve brought home the game.
I play basketball after sch every Friday, and the teams are almost always roughly the same every week. Some days we win and some days we don’t. When I lose the game, it always seems to be my fault when I lose, hmmmm, who else is there to blame? So on the drive home, I recall what happened during the game and find faults where I think I could’ve done better. This will continue right into the bathroom and after ceasing to stop only when im satisfied that I did perfom badly or made some mistakes that I shouldn’t hv.
Today was bad. It sucked. It was inter-class football and my class was rooted to be 1 of the best. Rooted… apparently they took in the performance of all other players except the keeper. Let in 2 goals in the 1st match which we went on to win. However, during the opening 5 mins of the 2nd match, 2 goals whizzed past me which I hv to admit that could’ve been safe. Before I entered the pitch, I was like “hey, being a keeper isn’t that hard rite? Besides, im a basketball player so keeping should come easy for me” It was NOT !!!! I don’t know, I think I have ballbeingkickedhardcomingtowardsmePhobia.
The blame was mine and mine alone to bear for the loss for if I;ve been a lil better, we would’ve won. Alas, I’ll just hv to suck it up and try to be better the next time. Hmm, shouldn’t that be what we all should be doing when we feel defeated? Suck it up, look up to the sky and never ever give up!! Cheers!

(Recommended for both children and adults xD)

(RED)

While surfing through blogs ytd, i came across a (RED)Blog. I've actually came across is brand - RED- b4 in a magazine. They brand names who create special products where a percentage of the profits from the sale of those products are donated to funds to battle AIDS, hiv and etc.
In fact, i've signed up to be a member of RED. The subscription is actually for notice of upcoming products and updates. It's a new thing going on and just stared in the US, thus im not sure if it's available here. Brand names like Georgio Armani, Converse, GAP, American Express, and Apple has a line of RED products. So what's RED??

I think u'll get the idea of (RED) after reading the manifesto above. So let's do the RED thing!!!

Cancer is Hereditary

Paid a visit recently to my grandma’s home and met up with a few aunties of mine. So they were chatting with my parents and I was sitting there listening. After a few mundane topics, it swerved into a relative of mine being diagnosed with cancer. Apparently he had colon cancer for a few months now but he didn’t know until recently.
Cancer is hereditary. Well, it’s one of the causes. Actually I didn’t know cancer can be inherited. I know it was a mutation of cells but I always thought it to be due to some radiation or some environment thingy. And I told myself that I have to find out bout that.
So, after a week or so, I finally brought myself to confirm if cancer is really hereditary. So I googled: ‘is cancer hereditary’ and clicked the 1st link that came up which brought me here. It wasn’t very informative but I did get to know that some cancer is inherited and colon cancer is 1 of it.
Anyway, colon cancer isn’t a sure death, heck I don’t any cancer patients now can be consigned as ‘confirmed to die’. The tremendous improvement in medicine and health care has greatly reduced the mortality rate of any disease.
My uncle’s getting better now, from what I hear from my mom. It was said that the cancer has spread to the liver but I didn’t hear any of that. Maybe it didn’t. Good for him and I wish him a speedy recovery.

Devil In disguise??

Technological advancements has brought us wonders. Recently there was a report that scientist had managed to invent an invisibility cloak. It isnt capable of making any1 or anything invisible to the naked eye yet, but it managed to deceive microwave detectors. You can read it more here. IMHO, the invention of this invisibilty cloak is a devil in disguise. The owner of the tech will be able to use it in devious and evil ways. Imagine military airplanes being able to destroy cities w/o being detected. Battleships moving across ocens w/o even causing a blib. Will we not then have cause our own destruction or of those of our fellow earthlings. This is only 1 prospect of the many that the invisibility cloak can be MISUSED !!! Caution is duly needed!!

Grist Of The Mill!!!!

In 1943, Winston Churchill said “The empires of the future will be empires of the mind”. How true. A few yrs back, the world was running out of jobs. Graduates filed in the hundreds to get a job as rubbish collectors. However, the current situation is direct opposite. We are now in a crisis of diminishing talent. The % of the workforce is due to drop in a couple of yrs and there are not enough replacements to go around. When I say talent, I don’t just mean people who score high GPA’s or are hardworking. They possess special skills or they have a knack for the job. With thus current situation, the government should come out from it’s hole and embrace the talents that are being snatched up every yr.
The quota sys reserves about 50% of the places for designated ppl. Most of em either have no interest in the course their given or they could not cope. In short, they are excess baggage. No, im not saying that ALL of em are inferior, it’s just that MOST of them are. It might be the fact that they are privileged and pampered by the government thus they are apathetic bout their edu. Heck, who would give a damn when you’re able to live off the government?
It’s bad enough that they waste seats, it’s worse when other students who are brighter, smarter and more intelligent could not get seats just because they don’t a bin in their name. These talents are neglected and unappreciated. So they feel down and sad and ultimately betrayed. And when foreign uni’s approach them with open arms, they jump to them like a lost kid who found his parents. And for the sake of these argument, these talented ppl graduate at the top of the class, they wont return to work here, they’ll contribute their skills to foreign companies which contributes to foreign countries. Now, we all know who loses out don’t we?
What has to be done is, for the quota not to be eliminated – that would make those privileged feel not so special anymore now wont we?- but for it to be reduced. By how much, should be decided by the gov but the reduction shouldn’t be less than 10%. It’s high time that the gov starts to acknowledge the fact that it needs more talent than shallow and apathetic people to spur the countries development.
Intelligent thought and pragmatism is needed to approach this matter. But what can I expect from ppl for are thinking of licensing turtle eggs (which are endangered) in a pretext of reducing the number of eggs being sold and to reduce poaching. But hey, what do I know? Im just a racist bas***d!!!! Cheers!!!

Exams....Bummer!!

Exams were invented to torture and punish us. It was also to make us feel bad of ourselves esp when you don’t get the results u want. Well, that’s what I thought in the past. But I’ve actually overcome that and enjoy the examination period.
There’s no teaching during that period thus I don’t have to listen to old and boring babbling. This will in turn refrain me from getting bored and letting my mind wander to the end of the world. Altho, I don’t considered that a very bad thing.
It’s a very good competition arena with every1 involved not just 10 players on the court. People can compete and challenge other people to do better. And I love competing. Altho I don’t very much like the idea of losing. However, as much as I like to excel in my studies, it’s been deteriorating real badly for the past 2 yrs and is condemned to worsen unless I do smth bout it. Bummer!
So I just had my finals, well not exactly. I still have maths and chem. 1 on Monday and then im thru. Sitting for the papers are 1 thing and getting the results back is another. If you’ve good results, wonderful! You’re happy and ppl around you are happy. But if u did badly, it kinda sucks. Anyway, I don’t think I’ll get the results I hoped coz I did rather badly. LOL, let’s just wait and see!!
Yea, and that’s the reason I haven’t been posting lately, finals..finals..finals. Anyway, after this I’ll have time and maybe taking smth different than the norm. Think my next post will be on Tuesday, Monday nite if im up for it. Anyway, Cheers! And Good Luck to any1 who’s having exams too! =)

Not For The Faint Hearted

What’s your fucking name? What the hell are you doing here? Go home..go home and enjoy ur life after PMR. Then 2 guys ordered me to do 20 push ups on the spot. As I was going down, the other 2 contradicts the former and told me to stand up straight. I was in a dilemma. What do I do? Then they started pushing me around and telling me to fuck the hell off from the place. Tears started running down my cheeks. I decided to just stand there. Well, that’s the intro for my SR. This yrs, sr is no different. With the usually screaming and shouting right at their faces. Eight of them came but how many will last to become a senior of Victoria scout group?
The day starts at 0830 in sch wearing sch uni. For any late comers, those already present are punished for it. Furthermore, imperfect attire will be met will a flurry of reprimanding and push ups. Assignments are given daily and number around 20-30. Failure to complete them w/o a valid reason will in turn cause every1 to be punished.
Physical training is scheduled for the 1st week. Everyday at 2.30 when the sun is shining brightly, we are ordered to run 10-15 rounds around school, 500 push ups and if they’re in a happy mood, 600, 150-200 sit ups and 30-50 chin ups. Sounds fun doesn’t it? And it is! I enjoyed it a lot, although some others seem to dread it. Bummer.
Thus, it’s safe to say that the 1st week is the toughest and most critical. For those who couldn’t handle themselves, they will choose to abandon their brothers and quit. Those who could not channel their pressure and\or anger will also leave their brothers to their fate. We had 14 on the 1st day, however after a week, the number had already dropped to 11.
SR is an orientation period that is vital to change the form 3’s boyscout’s attitude into a senior’s. They have to be adept at handling problems and is able to make good decisions under pressure. It is demanding and hard and the easiest way to get through it is by leaning to ur fellow brothers. It need not be all that scary and strenuous. I went through mine laughing. Altho I put it due to me laughing at the sight of vivek getting
punched in the stomach and how his tummy seems to wobble.
Through sr, I gained a lot of scouting knowledge. I learned to obey orders that are given but to disobey them if I regard them as wrong or stupid. My confidence improved tremendously after sr and it might be due to the fact that I have to perform embarrassing things during that time. I was also taught how to handle difficult problems and the ability to make good decisions under pressure. I’d also fostered a bond btw fellow sr’s that is so strong and lasting that it is the envy of ppl in my sch.
It’s hoped that all 8 of em this yr can last to become full-fletch senior scouts and that they will obtain what I’ve acquired or maybe to even gain smth that I might have missed out. Cheers and good luck!

Romance of Three Kingdoms

I've added a link to threekingdoms.com under ROTK, which is a website containing the novel of Romance of Tthree Kingdoms. It's a novel based on an era in ancient china where the region was split into 3 warring kingdoms. It's not too bad a novel but there's so many characters and events. There's about 120 chapters where some chapters are long, others are quite short. It's interesting if you're one who enjoy war and literature( yeah, they have poems and sorts). I've just only started but it has piqued my interest so much that i almost couldnt stop reading it. Tsk tsk, had to study for exams!! However, the standard of english of this novel isnt as good for it's a translation from the original chinese text. Anyway, i seriously recommend this to those who have time on their hands. Cheers!

U dont have a BIN !!!!

An average man’s action is influence by both his intelligence and emotions. A leader follower can only follow whereas a leader is responsible for himself and foremost his platoon therefore citing the importance of making decisions after much thought and planning. That’s no so average already now is it?
Prefects are but normal students. They go to the same school, study in the same class, play on the same field, interact with the same kind of students, breathe the same air and indulge in the same food. So the only thing that differentiates a prefect with a normal student is his uniform? Ironic!
Society expects prefects to be more than an average man with the super-human ability to stay clean –in both thought and deed-, smart and fine all the time. ALL THE TIME! Put aside the fact that they are not so super-human but rather do you think u are capable of doing what u expect them to do?
So when a few of my friends (some which are prefects) were caught one morning coming back to school after breakfast, repercussions were expected. I would’ve joined them myself if I hadn’t go for a talk. It was the 1st week of school, which means orientation, which also means that there are no classes. Canteen food takes a lil time to getting used to for they suck and they suck a lot.
Since they were thought to be more than human, the consequences of their actions were more severe. They were suspended and denied of their privilege…for now. Then after a few months of negotiating and indecisions from the admin, a letter was presented sacking them for sure and they are expected to revert to normal schoolboy uniforms within a few days.
I am however curious and this matter has prick my brain for awhile. Why was the school so harsh? I agree with the suspension however but not with the sacking. Many prefects were caught flying b4 and they were let off with only a warning. It prolly didn’t help their case for not having a Bin in their name but that can’t be helped. Besides, they were good prefects who did they job well and are also top-students in their classes. It must be that stupid Bin!!!
The school seems to hv forgotten the contributions they have performed and hog onto this 1 small mistake as an excuse to sack them. Maybe because there were too many prefects therefore tricking the admin to think they can offload some w/o threatening to ability of the prefects board. With spurred another thought, how the fuck are they going to run the school when capable people are being offloaded? Furthermore, the new candidates that were chosen are a disgrace albeit not all of em but most of em. It causes worry for these new tp’s are the kind u would expect to be carrying a teacher’s ass and lick when instructed to. They are the kind where they wouldn’t dare argue with a teacher and submissive. Tragic…tragic..tragic! Hmmmph, it seems that all those ass carrying and licking has done them much good.
It’s tragic and sad that capable people are sent away and the replacements are…..not up to standard? Gone are the days where prefects instil fear and discipline in the students with just their presence. Gone also are the days where students respect and obey a prefect’s command. Maybe im just overly pessimistic or that im pissed with the stupidity of some. However, when a not so average man makes a mistake, he’s not that super-human after all now is he? Oh well, i hope that it'll be a lesson not only to my friends but also the school and their ' intelligent and all-knowing adults. '

In a Quandary?

I entered chemistry with hopes of getting some close eye but alas she was in a pissy mood and decided to give a test. (She wasn’t pissy actually I just couldn’t find a word to describe.) Anyway, it’s a test where one can discuss with friends or refer books so one have to wonder the seriousness of it. So I was breezing thru the questions – I would’ve if I studied- when smth caught my eye in a form of an Indian and a Chinese walking towards me. They were my form 4’s (scouts). And I was informed that I was needed in the principal’s office. Well jolly good day for me!!!
Apparently all this fuss was due to a scene which was enacted during RA in this yr’s campfire: I drove the truck in (slowly) and stop at the topmost NE corner of the arena where there will be a fight scene btw 2 gangstas. 1 of em will die and will be positioned directly in the middle of the truck which I will then reverse over (slowly) and making a getaway.
The meeting was btw me, form 4’s (they’re the leaders of the current term), our 2 teacher advisers, sch’s senior asst. of co-cu and the principal himself. This was all a manifestation from a letter sent by an unknown parent of an unknown child to the sch which was fwd to the Edu ministry and the Edu minister himself to condemn our performance on that day. Yea, it seems that this matter is more than an itch on ur buttocks.
The 1st few minutes were used to explain what actually occurred and brooding over what we should’ve done instead. Hmmm, quite the productive! The ‘intelligent and all-knowing’ adults soon started insulting our intelligence and if we had our brains in ur asses. Therefore we voiced up and defended – tried – our actions.
The most productive part of the meeting was when we all started discussing how to tackle is problem together. We were asked to write reports, gathered up the letters and written approvals, and pictured. They also asked for my driving license. Hmm, I wonder why?
The school has threatened that if it doesn’t go nicely, they will abolish the troop. Looking back now, it does seem stupid. Many things could’ve gone wrong but thank god it didn’t. It was dangerous to say the least but I have no regrets. If only you ‘intelligent and all-knowing’ adults could see things from our pov then maybe u will understand a lil. Or maybe you won’t, for u might be too intelligent for it, eh?
