We went to Bkt Bendera last Sunday to stretch our legs and take in some clean air. Instead of taking the cable car up like other pansys do, we opted to hike up instead.
It was a 3 hour hike with 1 and a half hours mountain trail and the other half hell... i mean paved roads.
We left campus at 0600 wanting to beat the traffic and the scorching sun rays. Everyone was psyched up and ready to go. The only thing left was breakfast.
Breakfast was a let down, it wasn't tasty nor even up to par. But then again, we were at Tanjung Bungah. A place i reckon to be the beginning of the tourist area.
We began our journey at 0830 from the foot of the hill, trekking up what seems to me to be spectacularly easy. This was nthg when compared to Bkt Tabor. It was tiring nonetheless.
We started off with ten, only one came out alive..... Sry, lame attempt.
The guys : Kit hock, me, Cj, Clement, Teikz, Wei bing,( Soon young mia)
Girls : Catherine, Siew Cheng, Yie Sue
5 minutes in and everyone was still psyched and started to camwhore.
15 mins in and we were still going strong.
The trail was picking up after 45 mins and the strain on the legs was beginning to make their presence known to some of us. Nonetheless with that crazy fit ass Soon Young at the front, we just had to keep going to catch up.
I brought up the rear to prevent any slackers. And obviously to allow myself to slack off sometimes too. It's the prerogative.
An hour in and the photos began to stop coming in. The camera bearer was well, busy with other things. ;)
After an hour and a half of relatively uneventful trek, we finally reached the rest house that marks the beginning of the paved roads where we began our trail of hell. We took a pit stop at the rest house, eating some breads and drinking mountain water for free. But a donation is very much appreciated. =)'
We refilled our empty bottles and gave our muscles much needed rest to prepare for the trek
that would eventually win me four (4) teh-o-ais limau. To you losers, i'm still waiting for it!
Since kit hock told us with so much confidence that the naked uncle working there definitely wanted some money or *ahem* token of appreciation. We began scavenging for money. After finally finding 50 cents or so, i rather smartly threw it into an empty canister which i took to be the donation box.
It was not.
Now, picture this. You're in the middle of nowhere with a naked uncle sitting on a bench nearby and you just did smth stupid. What do you do?
3 words registered in my head and it all sounded like RUN! RUN! RUN!
You could see the uncle with his hands in the... tea pot -.- collecting the 50 cents.
The road up was not be to taken lightly. It measured a 30 degrees ascend. It looked more like 45 to us.
There were a total of 4 pictures taken whilst conquering this 1 and a half hour ascend. It was tiring. So much so that once again i have to state, i won 4 teh-o-ais limau on it.
The first thing i saw on reaching the top was an Indian temple. How potong stim that was. Damn you indians!! The next was a sign leading towards a surau. Damn you chinese, stop thinking about making money and start building some temples where you dont need em!
There was actually nothing much to explore at the top.
Except my humongus canon.
It was windy, yes, but the scorching sun rays all but negates the cooling effect.
We decided to grab a drink and rest. The only thing i found worthy of the hike up was the orange juice that's 70% sugar water at the end of it.
No, it was the view. The view of the whole city of the Penang plus the bridge. Hazy and definitely no what i'll call beautiful but i have to find smth worthy!!
Some wanted to take the cable car down but thats way out of the way. We would be on the other side of the hill with our cars on the other.
...I was in the mind that we descend the way we ascend. We walk! We gotta balance up the muscle usage people!
So after a concensus and reasoning that we would end up too far from our cars if we took the cable, we began our descend.
Somehow, the descend always feels faster. It always does!
By forming trains and marching bands, we were at the botanical gardens in no time!
They make me wonder why i have friends like these! Hahahaha
4 of us guys, Soon Young, Clement, Teikz and myself took our time enjoying the hydrotherapy of the man made waterfall while the other 6 used the toilet without showers.Boy was that waterfall relaxing. Our muscles dont ache one bit and it didnt feel like we just made a 6 hour trek up and down Bkt Bendera.
It's was around 4 when we left the waterfalls. We took our delayed lunch and headed back to campus for a good sleep at night.
