Swines at work!

The day they decided to close off the campus, i had a total of 5 hours of sleep. Speculation had been running high the night before and we were all expecting it to happen.

I just didnt expect it to happen so damn early in the morning. At 0630 hours my roommate burst through the door informing that the campus will be closed. Everyone will need to be our of campus before nightfall undergoing temperature checks before leaving. Text msg-es came in bringing the same news. It had got to be true.

At 0730, I went to the cafe to get our temperature checked. So what did i do between 0630 and 0730 hrs? Jumping in and out of sleep accompanied with curses every now and then.

To begin with, they quarantined an entire floor of one wing at my block. My block has 3 wings. Showing off their eternal lacking of brains and their ineptitude, they quarantined the wing in the Middle! Is it not intellectually smarter to cordon off a wing at the side? Why didn't they use the Health Unit which is secluded and far away?

Why would they even need to quarantine an entire floor? Didn't the Campus Director announce that we had zero cases yet? Which was the reason they are closing the campus.

but wait for it...

Postgraduates can stay. I seriously didn't know that higher academic qualifications makes you immune to diseases. Especially this highly overrated flu.

Yes, i'm saying you don't have to be overly concerned of H1N1 because it's highly overrated. Its just like another flu. And for those running the university, you dont even need to see a doctor when you have a runny nose, you're already a swine for goodness sake!

Fear grips our hearts when we do not fully understand something. For instance, before the vaccine for swine flu was in production, a doctor's presciption for a person infected with H1N1 is home quarantine for 7 days. Maybe some antibiotics but no specific medication.

Now if it was that serious and life threatening wouldn't a doctor prescribe something more potent or even get you admitted?

People who are high risk are those young children and elderly. For healthy 20 year olds like us University students, we are almost risk averse. Flu is transmitted when you sneeze or cough when there's people close to you. Swine flu is transmitted by the same method but it gets transmitted easier. That said however, why are we suddenly so worked up when before, we cough and sneeze freely or sometimes maybe even on purpose at our friends?

Does the word swine in front make a flu any more potent? How bout if i say i'm down with elephant flu? Being the largest mammal on earth gotta mean smth big rite?

Like i said, fear spreads when we dont understand. Without even attempting to explain what swine flu is, i think the admin expected us to know. Probably from the mainstream media or the internet. But ohhhh, connections so quick , you couldn't even sign in to MSN Messenger!

Coming back, they announced that check-ups will begin at 0730. Without predicting or even assuming that we all have a malaysian in each of us and that we are actually rather kiasu in nature, the check-ups will be done at lembaran cafe. All 1500-2000 of us queing up for our check up to be declared safe to exit the campus.

Now, check ups are necessary. The Uni admin doesn't know if any of us is carrying the swine but they think some of us might. So they came up with this grand idea of running a compulsory temperature check on all the students.

So at 0730 hours, you get around 800 students- after deducting people who stayed in bed and post grads who have nthg to worry since they are immune to it- in the cafe waiting to be checked. All 800 under one roof with suspects mingling amongst us.

I have to admit that i was also one of the kiasu ones and i went to the cafe at 0730 to be declared safe only to find it PACKED!

How prudent is it to gather so many people at one area with a disease that can be transmitted easily? How sensible was the decision? Was the possibility that so many would gather at the same time even came up when they were deciding?

Is the decision to close the campus, forcing us to return to our hometown or go away to some place wise? Anand who's a 3rd year medicine student asked me why the heck i'm back? He said what i was thinking the whole time. We should be quarantine within campus instead of being allowed to go away!!

What the Uni should have done if they were being serious in tackling this problem was to close the campus and quarantine us WITHIN campus instead.

I am in a mind that i have a higher risk of getting infected with the disease in KL than i'll be if i was in campus. Temperatures of students should be checked but in phases say, going by Blocks and Wings of blocks or maybe even by schools. Never should they gather all together as it will only increase the chance of exacerbating things.

Students who are suspected should be quarantined but not in the middle wing of a block but in the Health Unit which is secluded! Man, how the the heck they get that smart idea of doing that? Fucking swines.

Now, when i get back to Uni. Will i be scanned or will i pass through the university gates as though nothing has even occurred? They are so afraid of getting bad publicity that they send us all out of campus. They better be scanning my temperature when i get back to make sure i dont bring along the disease with me.

I am severely questioning their ability and their seriousness in handling this overrated Swine Flu scare. If i do not get scanned tmrw when i reach campus, it will confirm my suspicion that the events unfolded in the past week is nothing but a scam and to rid themselves of any bad publicity!

Swines are at work my friends and they are running our University. Now what happens when cases are reported after all of us are back? Are those swines going to close the campus yet again?

Damn swines, they never really think things through. All they do is eat, eat, eat and eat.
